James Carmon

James Lee Carmon, 73, of New London died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born Nov. 21, 1933, in Wayne, Mich., he was the son of Fred and Edna Seelye Carmon. On June 14, 1958, he married Barbara Michael in Wayne.

Mr. Carmon worked in plant operations at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington for 26 years. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a 1951 graduate of Wayne High School and attended Henry Ford Junior College in Dearborn, Mich.

He was a member of the New London Presbyterian Church, New London Lions Club and Deerwood Golf Course. He enjoyed golf, tinkering with old cars and watching his grandchildren wrestle and play baseball.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Laurie McBeth and Diane Walker, both of New London; one son, Chris Carmon of Cambridge; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his mother of Wayne; one brother, Donald Carmon of Plymouth, Mich.; one sister, Beverly Haas of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be at noon Thursday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Carmon will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Sue Tomlinson and Tim Distelhorst officiating. He will be cremated following the service. Inurnment will be later in Burge Cemetery in New London.

Memorials have been established to New London Fire Department, New London Presbyterian Church and New London Junior Baseball Association.
