Douglas Lee Humphrey

Douglas Lee Humphrey, 48, of Romeo, Michigan, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

Born on August 7, 1958, he was the son of James E. Humphrey and Phyllis J. Peterman. On August 6, 1977, he married Elizabeth Smith. They later divorced.

Doug was a 1976 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, where he loved playing football and baseball. He was employed for nearly 20 years at the Iowa Department of Transportation before moving to Romeo, Michigan to work for the Saleen Company as a painter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cooking. He was a life-long fan of the Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed watching NASCAR.

He is survived by his two sons, Denton (Kathleen) of Mount Pleasant and Derek of Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren, D.J., Makayla, and Makensie. Also surviving are his mother, Phyllis Humphrey, of Salem; brother, Jeff (Dee) of Romeo, Michigan; sisters, Kim (Don) Darbyshire and Karen (Ron) Fillinger of New London; nephews and nieces, Dillon and Daniell Darbyshire, and Luke and Natalie Humphrey; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joey, his father, James E., his sister, Jenifer and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Mount Pleasant, with Father Nick Adam officiating. The family will receive friends following the mass.

Elliott Chapel, New London is assisting the family with local arrangements.
