DAVIS FUNERAL SERVICE HELD

The funeral service of the late A. H. Davis was held at the Universalist church, Sunday, August 23, in charge of Rev. Laura Galer. Music was furnished by Mrs. G. E. King who sang two solos and Miss Dorothy Willits, who played Consolation. The pall bearers were Lester Schuerman, Horton Gilbert, Ross Wright, George Wright, Leo Smith and Clyde Nihart, all old friends and neighbors. Mrs. Mary Williams and Mrs. Hugh Carnahan were in charge of the flowers. A brief service was held at the home for the close relatives and Mrs. Davis, who was unable to attend the church service. Interment was made at Forest Home.

Asahel Hosea Davis was born at Littleton, Illinois, July 15, 1861 and passed away at the Saunders hospital at Avon, Illinois, August 21, 1936.

He graduated from the Rushville high school in 1881. Later he attended the State Normal school at Valparaiso, Indiana, and Knox college and taught at Littleton and in Nebraska for a number of years.

After the death of his father he returned to his home at Littleton, took charge of the farm and cared for his mother. In 1898 after the death of his mother, he with his two sisters, Abby and Ethel, moved to the farm four miles east of Mt. Pleasant where he lived until 1918 when the family moved to Mt. Pleasant.

On January 20, 1904, he was united in marriage to Mary Etta Becker. To this union were born four children, Harold and Charlotte at home; Eunice, who is in nurses training in Chicago; and Ralph, deceased.

Besides his wife and children he is survived by three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Abby R. DeGraf of Alexandria, Minn.; Mrs. Glaphyra Garrison of Littleton, Ill., Mrs. Cynthia Seeley of Norma, Ill., and Dr. Ernest Davis of Avon, Ill.

He was a member of the Universalist church from the time of his coming to Iowa and for fourteen years had been a trustee of the church.

In addition to the brother and sisters there were present from out of town for the funeral, Howard and Giles Davis and Miss Barbara Davis of Avon; Miss Helen Seeley, Mr. and Mrs. Barton of Normal; Franklin Garrison, of Littleton; Mr. and Mrs. Harley Corry and sons, James and John, Mr. Asa Bartlett and Sam Bartlett, of Rushville, Ill.
