Walter Miller

Walter Harrison Miller Jr., 77, of Mount Pleasant, died suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003.

Born Sept. 9, 1925, near Burlington, he was the son of Walter Harrison Sr. and Florence Ida Haskell Miller. On June 19, 1949, he married Wanda Helphrey in Winfield.

Mr. Miller was a farmer.

He was raised near Burlington and moved with his family to Pleasant Lawn in 1941 and was a graduate of Pleasant Lawn High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Evening Rotary Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was a 50-year member of the New London Masonic Lodge No. 28. He served on the Pleasant Lawn School Board and served as a board director for Mount Union Co-op Elevator, Production Credit Association of Mount Pleasant, FMHA, Farm Bureau and Hope Haven Development Corp. of Burlington.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patricia Coe of Mount Pleasant, Joan Padley of Marion and Teresa Miller of Burlington; one son, Jim Miller of Scott City, Kan.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with a Masonic service at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends until 6 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Miller will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Hope Haven of Burlington and First United Methodist Church.
