Robert Ensminger

Robert L. Ensminger, 77, of Mount Pleasant died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.

Born July 3, 1927, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of George and Gayle Messer Ensminger. On July 16, 1947, he married Betty Lou Wehrle.

Mr. Ensminger worked for the CB&Q Railroad as a time keeper, for Capp Homes in Des Moines as a carpenter and for Mason and Hanger in the atomic division. Before retiring, he was a self-employed cement contractor.

He was a 1945 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He was a member of the Rome Baptist Church, which he helped build. He was a member of the Royal Order of the Moose Lodge 1003. He also enjoyed fishing with his buddies.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gayle Rupp of Mount Pleasant and Teresea Anderson of Fort Madison; one son, Edward Ensminger of Jefferson City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, George Ensminger Jr. of Rome.

He was preceded in death by one son, his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral for Mr. Ensminger will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rome Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Royer officiating. Burial will be in Grant Cemetery. The family will greet friends at a luncheon following the services.

A memorial has been established for Rome Baptist Church.
