Amelia Jones

Mary Amelia Jones, 91, of New London, formerly of Danville, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at New London Nursing & Rehab.

Born July 8, 1909, in Washington, she was the daughter of Horace Elmore and Edna Stewart Hogue Brimhall. She married Homer Paul Jones on June 6, 1931, in Burlington. He died Oct. 14, 1996.

Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Danville High School, a farm wife and homemaker. She taught country school before her marriage and also worked for Obermann's Grocery & Variety in Danville for many years.

She was a member and past president of King's Daughters and a member of Town & Country Pinochle Group in Danville. She enjoyed her grandchildren, flowers, gardening and sewing.

Survivors include two daughters, Norma Morgan of Burlington and Mary Ellen Kannegiesser of Pryor, Okla.; one son, Paul Jones of Montezuma; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Keith Brimhall of Mount Pleasant; and one sister, Thelma Kelley of Danville.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Elliottt Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The graveside service for Mrs. Jones will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Burlington Memorial Cemetery, with Pastor Carl Engstrom officiating.

A memorial has been established for Alzheimer's Treatment & Research Center.
