Berniece Peterson

Berniece C. Peterson, 82, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at her home.

Born July 17, 1917, in rural Morning Sun, she was the daughter of Leland and Laura Walker Bozarth. On Jan. 12, 1938, she married Warren L. Peterson in Ottumwa. He died July 17, 1998.

Mrs. Peterson graduated from Mount Union High School. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm. She canned and cooked fruits and vegetables from her garden. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church of rural Mount Pleasant and United Methodist Women.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ruggles of Mount Pleasant and Janis Smith of Escondido, Calif.; two sons, Merrill Peterson of Tampa, Fla., and Don Peterson of Madison, Wis.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; one brother, Gene Bozarth of Yarmouth; and five sisters, Bernadine Larson of Winfield, Garnet Coberley of New London, Bonnie Richenberger of Plano, Texas, Ann Levins of Burlington and Joyce Bozarth of Wapello.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, five brothers and one sister.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday in Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Peterson will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established for the Eden project at Park Place.
