Orlan Linn Calloway
NEW LONDON - Orlan Linn Calloway, 88, New London, died in Henry County Care Center at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29.
He opened the first service station in New London, for Sunshine Oil Co., in 1919. He later farmed and worked as a painter and carpenter.
The son of James and Finetts Brown Calloway, he was born Aug. 27, 1888, at Yarmouth. He married Gladys Anderson June 8, 1911, in Burlington*; she died Nov. 28, 1940. On Oct. 13, 1946 he married Bernice Ritchey at Elliot; she died Nov. 15, 1973. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and senior citizens.
Surviving: three sons, Rex, Hollywood, Fla., Ronald, Corydon, and Roscoe, Mt. Pleasant; two step-daughters, Arnelda Peterson, St. Louis, and Gertha Brandt, Ft. Madison; brother David, and sister Elizabeth Shelledy, both of New London; 11 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-granchildren.
Funeral: 2:30 Tuesday, Elliot Chapel, Elder Earl Humphrey; Burge cemetery. A memorial has been established at the chapel.
