Maxine Metzger

Frances Maxine Metzger, 84, of Morning Sun, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 18, 1915, in New London, she was the daughter of Wilbur Charles and Alice Mae Fye Poggemiller. On Dec. 23, 1936, she married Winton P. Metzger in Morning Sun. He died June 1, 1994.

Mrs. Metzger was a nurse's aide at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield and Morning Sun Manor. She also was a homemaker and helped on the farm.

She was a 1933 graduate of Morning Sun High School. She was of the Methodist faith and active in local women's organizations.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Warth of Mediapolis; two sons, Donald Metzger and Richard Metzger, both of Morning Sun; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Delores Black of Wapello; and one brother, Wilbur Poggemiller Jr. of Lockhart, Texas.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

According to her wishes, the body has been cremated. There will be no visitation or service at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun.

A graveside service for Mrs. Metzger will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Shinar Cemetery at Pleasant Grove, with the Rev. Chris Thomas officiating.

A memorial has been established.
