Johenry Mast

Johenry Mast, 81, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Wayland, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born April 23, 1925 in Washington County, he was the son of Paul and Mildred (Zingg) Mast. On Dec. 3, 1942, he married Lucille Keith at her parents' home.

He graduated from Wayland High School in 1942. He was a member of Wayland Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge in Wayland and was past president of the Iowa State Custodial Board. He was involved with Wayland Christmas lights, was mayor for 12 years and helped start the Wayland Museum. He farmed and did carpentry work, ran a restaurant and gas station, and retired from WACO as custodian following 15 years of service.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, was an avid Cubs fan and collector of many things. He enjoyed WACO sports.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Mast of Redland, Calif., and Steve Mast of Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Kathy Adrian of Mount Pleasant and Lorrie Roth of Wayland; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one grandson.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon today at Wayland Mennonite Church, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Mr. Mast will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wayland Mennonite Church with the Rev. Gerry Klopfenstein officiating. Burial will be in Center Township Cemetery east of Wayland.

Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is assisting with arrangements.

Memorials in the name of Johenry Mast may be designated to WACO Boosters.
