Harold Sams

Harold William Sams, 85, of Argyle, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Born Jan. 2, 1921, in Danville, he was the son of Willie and Annabell Korell Sams. On Jan. 22, 1944, he married Amy Brown in Mount Union.

He graduated in 1938 from New London High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. He farmed in the Argyle area, starting in 1949 and retiring in 1986. He was a 52-year member of Melrose United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge of New London No. 28 AF&AM. He loved to play pinochle, listen to Hawkeye basketball games and was an avid baseball fan.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Cary Sams of Keokuk; two daughters, Nancy Cree of Iowa City and Cheryl Cross of Des Moines; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation with the family will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.

Funeral services for Mr. Sams will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home, with the Rev. Neil Cross officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

Memorials may be made to Melrose United Methodist Church.
