June Coppes

June Maurine Coppes, 96, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Yarmouth, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born June 9, 1910, in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of Lewis and Amelia Abel Coppes.

Miss Coppes was a piano teacher and worked on the family farm.

She was a 1928 graduate of Yarmouth High School. She was the oldest member of Yarmouth Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and music.

Survivors include four nieces, including Faith Totemeier of Mount Pleasant; five nephews, including Darrell Holsteen of Illinois and Lewis Venghaus of Mount Union; grandnieces; grandnephews; great-grandnieces; and great-grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, one niece and one nephew.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Yarmouth Baptist Church, with family meeting friends during that time.

The funeral for Mrs. Coppes will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Yarmouth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Hooks officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

A memorial has been established for Yarmouth Baptist Church.

Elliott Chapel in New London is in charge of arrangements.
