Verlee Connop

Verlee Maxine Connop, 76, of Winfield, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.

Born Jan. 17, 1930, in Yarmouth, she was the daughter of Cable and Gladys Jones Gittings. On Jan. 10, 1951, she married Robert D. Connop in Mount Union.

Mrs. Connop was a 1947 graduate of Yarmouth High School and a 1950 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington. She was a registered nurse at the Henry County Health Center's maternity department, retiring in 1993 after 30 years of service.

She was a member of Mount Union United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, New London OES No. 440, Amitie Club of Winfield, Areme Club and Hawkeye Links. She enjoyed square dancing, volunteering at Old Threshers, camping and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Thomas Connop of Dallas, David Connop of Burlington and Richard Connop of Winfield; three grandsons; one granddaughter; one sister, Helen Metzger of Winfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

According to her wishes, her body has been cremated.

An OES Service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will meet with friends following the service until 8 p.m.

A memorial service for Mrs. Connop will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Union United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in Trinity Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Mount Union United Methodist Church and the Eden Fund at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
