Harold Lee

Harold E. Lee, 80, of rural Mount Union, died Saturday afternoon, May 27, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 28, 1919, in Roscoe, he was the son of Clifford O. and M. Marie Piper Lee. On Feb. 15, 1941, he married Erma Kellogg at Pleasant Grove.

Mr. Lee was a longtime farmer and livestock feeder in the Mount Union area. He was a 1937 graduate of Mediapolis High School and a four-year World War II veteran, serving as a master sergeant with the 66th Signal Bn. Co. B in the European and Asiatic Theaters.

He was a former member of the Iowa Cattleman's Association, former 4-H leader and enjoyed helping local 4-H youth. He was a member of United Church of Christ at Yarmouth, Henry County Farm Bureau and a member and past master of New London Masonic Lodge No. 28. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his family, friends and neighbors.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sharon Seberg of Tolono, Ill.; one son, Robert H. Lee of New London; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lyle Lee of Marshalltown and Roger Lee of Burlington; and two sisters, Marcelle Lee of Burlington and Twyla Billings of Argyle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends following Masonic rites at 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Lee will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ at Yarmouth, with the Rev. Harold Schnedler officiating. Burial with military rites by American Legion 243 of Mediapolis will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

Memorials have been established for New London, Mount Union and Yarmouth Volunteer Fire Departments and the New London Wrestling Booster Club.
