Phyllis Williams

Phyllis A. Williams, 82, of Memphis, Tenn., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at St. Francis Nursing Home in Memphis.

Born Jan. 16, 1918, in Mason City, she was the daughter of Thomas Ray and Golda Didama Phares Benson. On July 28, 1940, she married Max B. Williams in Nevada, Iowa. He died in 1987.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker.

She was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Roberta A. Stoner of Las Vegas; one son, Donald R. Williams of Memphis; three grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, including Mary Shelledy of New London.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no visitation.

A graveside committal service for Mrs. Williams will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Long Creek Cemetery in Danville, with the Rev. William Stype officiating.

Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society or a hospice center of the donor's choice.

Elliott Chapel in New London is in charge of arrangements.
