Clayton Parsons
Clayton Walter Parsons, 81, of New London, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born May 23, 1925, in Lowell, he was the son of Walter Thomps and Libby Schmidt Parsons. On Dec. 31, 1944, he married Marjorie Dean Conard in Mount Union.
Mr. Parsons farmed the land he was born on in Lowell for 52 years, beginning at age 14. He retired in 1991 and moved to New London.
He was a former member of Lowell Baptist Church. He was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher, and a deacon. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Amateur Radio Association. He was an avid machinist and woodworker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and HAM radio friends. He loved singing and entertaining at nursing homes and churches.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Paula Broeker Mohrfeld of West Point, Sharon Phillips, Deborah Gipple and Joleen Hollingsworth, all of New London, and Brenda Anderson of St. Ansgar; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Darlyne Raines of New London.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two half-sisters.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Parsons will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Dot Hasler officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.
A memorial has been established for the New London Rescue Unit.
