Freda Hines
Freda L. Hines, 76, lifelong resident of New London, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at her home after an 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born Oct. 20, 1929, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of LeRoy and Mary Hawn Ball. On Aug. 17, 1952, she married Charles E. Hines in New London. He died on Feb. 14, 1978.
Mrs. Hines worked for Continental Telephone Co. for over 25 years. She operated Hines Motors with her husband for 35 years and became the president after his death.
She was a 1947 graduate of New London High School. She was a member of New London United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her Sunday school class in her later years. She was only one of a handful of female car dealers in the United States for Ford Motor Co.
Survivors include one son, Timothy Hines of Bloomington, Ill.; four grandsons; and one sister, Katherine J. Ball of New London.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel prior to the funeral. There will be no family visitation and the casket will remain closed.
The funeral for Mrs. Hines will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.
Memorials have been established for the Miller Home in Pekin, Ill., and New London United Methodist Church.
