Billy Wellington

Billy Gene Wellington, 73, 207 E. Washington, New London, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born June 30, 1925, at New London, he was the son of William S. and Helen Marie Walker Wellington. On June 8, 1946, he married Linnea Marie Walker in Danville.

Mr. Wellington was a graduate of New London High School and was a World War II Navy veteran.

He worked in the railroad shops in Burlington. He also was food service director for Parsons College in Fairfield and later at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of New London United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4761 of New London. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his grandsons.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Sam Wellington of New London; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will begin after noon today in Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Wellington will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Howland officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery in Danville.

Memorials have been established for New London United Methodist Church and the New London Rescue Squad.
