Lieut. Orlin Wyse Declared Dead
Missing Since July 25, 1943, Off Guadalcanal

Wayland- 1st Lieut. Orlin F. Wyse, missing in action since July 25, 1943, off the Guadalcanal Island has been officially declared dead. A presumptive date of death was set by the United States Government as Jan. 3, 1946, after being listed as missing 2 ½ years.

Lt. Wyse was born near Wayland March 1, 1920. He graduated from highschool here in May 1937 after which he attended the University of Iowa two years. He entered service in Nov. 1941. Was commissioned a 2nd Lieut. In July 1942 and went overseas in January 1943 and was commissioned 1st Lieut. while in the Pacific.

He was the older son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wyse living three miles east of town. A younger brother Wesley and a sister Mrs. Maynard Wyse with the parents survive.

Memorial services will be held at the Sugar Creek church on Sunday afternoon Jan. 20 at 2 p.m.
