C. R. GILLASPEY FUNERAL HELD

The memorial service for Clarence R. Gillaspey was held at the Crane Funeral Home Friday afternoon, December 31 at 2:00 P.M. Dr. George G. Hunt was the officiating minister. Mr. V. M. Boshart sang “Be Still My Soul” and “Abide With Me”. Mrs. Dan Winter played the organ.

During the service, Dr. Hunt emphasized that fulfillment of Christian ideals can be achieved by the uncomplaining acceptance of suffering and pain. All who know Clarence Gillaspey during his lifetime came to realize he lived as he believed—not to ask for less suffering but for the strength to bear the suffering as it came.

Clarence R. Gillaspey, son of John T. and Elizabeth (Scheffel) Gillaspey, was born on a farm in Wayne township, August 12, 1891 and passed away at his home in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday morning, December 29, 1948. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth. As a youth, he joined the Finley M.E. Church; he
Was a faithful member as long as he lived in that community. Later he transferred his letter to the First Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant. On February 26, 1913, he was united in marriage to Edna Hooper of Olds. They resided on a farm near Swedesburg where their three children were born. In 1928 he and his family moved to Olds where he was in business for several years. Later, he moved to Mt. Pleasant and operated a grocery store . In 1940 he returned to his farm. Four years later, due to failing health, he moved to Mt. Pleasant where he spent the remainder of his life.

He is survived by his wife, three children, Mrs. Gladys McGohan of near Swedesburg, Robert of Des Moines, and Margaret, at home; by two grandchildren, Billy and Betty McGohan; a sister, Cora, of Mt. Pleasant, and a brother, John, of Prescott, Arizona.

Pallbearers were: Joe Lyon, Frank Lyon, Raymond Hultquist, Herman Otto, Ray Seberg, and Roy Payne. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery.
