Funeral Held for Jacob G. Roth

Wayland – Jacob G. Roth, son of the late Joseph and Mary Gerig Roth, was born near Smithville, Wayne County, Ohio on November 16, 1871. He departed this life at the Goshen City Hospital, Goshen, Indiana on November 16 having attained the age of 76 years. At the age of 18 he came to the Wayland community to work. Shortly afterward he became a member of the Sugar Creek Church and remained a faithful member until death. On July 29, 1892 he was united in marriage to Bertha Wyse. Five children were born. Two died in early childhood.

During the first four years of their married life they lived on different farms in the Wayland community and then moved back to Wayne County, Ohio, for one year. Returning to Iowa they purchased a farm three miles east of Wayland which was their home until they moved to Wayland in 1929.

Death resulted from a heart attack which came while he was attending the funeral services of his grandson, Loren Lee Gingerich, at Goshen, Indiana. Death came suddenly after he was apparently recovering as he was planning to leave the hospital on Monday.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. C. G. Graber, Mrs. Melvin Gingerich of Goshen, Indiana and Arthur Roth of Orrtanna, Pennsylvania. There are 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, two brothers, Chris of Wayland, Peter G. of Noble, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Boese of Wayland.

Funeral services were held at the Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, Indiana on Tuesday November 18th. Services were conducted by S. C. Yoder and Joseph D. Graber. Funeral services were held at Sugar Creek Wayland, Iowa, on Thursday afternoon, November 20 at 2 P.M. in charge of Simon Gingerich and Willard Leichty. Interment was made in Sugar Creek Cemetery.
