Frieda Elizabeth Freyenberger, 88, of Wayland, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.

Born Oct. 29, 1913, near Wayland, she was the daughter of Christian Graber and Elizabeth Rediger Widmer. She married Edwin Oswald Freyenberger on Dec. 23, 1936, on the family farm.

Mrs. Freyenberger attended Douglas Country School. She was a homemaker and worked at the Sail-Inn Cafe and Parkview Home.

She was a lifetime member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and the Wayland community. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, assisted with MYF activities and was honored as "Mother of the Year" by the MYF. She also was a 4-H sponsor and enjoyed quilting and cooking.

Survivors include four sons, Gerald E. Freyenberger of Wayland, Wayne C. Freyenberger of Ainsworth, Ledru Freyenberger of Wayland and Stanley G. Freyenberger of Manhattan, Kan.; five daughters, Elizabeth A. Webb of Fort Collins, Colo., Anna M. Hochstetler of Kalona, Kay L. Frunzi of Parker, Colo., Mary C. Hereford of Berthoud, Colo., and Deana F. Hauenstein of Mediapolis; three brothers, Glenn Widmer of Wayland, Reuben Widmer of Green Valley, Ariz., and Daniel Widmer of Albany, Ore.; one sister, Mary Wenger of Wayland; 24 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Freyenberger will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Roger Farmer officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Parkview Home.
