Robert L. "Red" Alliman, 65, of Oquawka, Ill., formerly of Burlington, died at 6:58 a.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Born Nov. 22, 1936, in Wayland, he was the son of Edward John and Elvera Leona Herslow Alliman. He married Darlene Nolte in 1957. He later married Letha Fraser in 1959, in Monmouth, Ill.

Mr. Alliman attended Denmark and West Point schools and was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He worked for J.I. Case Co. for 32 years.

He was of the Protestant faith and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 150 of Burlington and United Auto Workers Local 807. He enjoyed singing and songwriting, listening to country music, fishing and mushroom hunting.

Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Eid and Leslie Alliman, both of Fort Madison; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Maxine Coleman of Burlington and Darlene Zaerr of Fort Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will begin at noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Alliman will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel, with the Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison, with military rites conducted at VFW Posts 10102 & 9162, American Legion Post 52 and the Marine Corps League.

A memorial has been established.
