Margaret E. Christner, 72, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Nov. 24, 1929, in Long Beach, Calif., she was the daughter of Kayle and Vera Mae Kern Vought. She married Harold Junior Christner Aug. 21, 1947, in Huntington Park, Calif. He died July 6, 1993.

She completed her secondary education at Compton Education Junior College in 1946. She was first employed as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Los Angeles, then worked at the Continental Can Company in East Los Angeles from 1955 until 1965. She then moved to Little Rock, Ark., where she owned and operated a restaurant from 1968 until 1975, when she retired and moved to Mesa, Ariz. She returned to college and received her associate of arts degree from Maricopa Community College in 1987. She had been a resident of Mount Pleasant since 1989, moving recently to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis to be near her daughter.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Sue Renken of Winfield; two grandsons; four granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weir Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Christner will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 202 E. Washington, St., Mount Pleasant, with the Revs. Wayne Kamm and Dian Ong officiating. Burial will be in North Hill Cemetery, rural Wayland.
