Robert L. "Bob" Yoder, 64, of Wayland, died at 7:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at his home.

Born Oct. 20, 1937, near Hills, he was the son of Ivan and Elsie Roth Yoder. He married Donna Linder on Jan. 17, 1965, in New London.

At a very young age, Mr. Yoder's family moved to the Wayland area, where he has lived ever since. He was a 1956 graduate of Wayland High School and served in the Army from Jan. 1, 1961, to July 30, 1964. He was a partner and vice president in the family business, Yoder & Sons. He also was a farmer and turkey producer.

He was a member of Wayland Mennonite Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee, usher, greeter, sound system technician, social committee worker and president of the Faithful Followers Sunday School class.

He was a fireman for the Wayland Fire Department for 41 years, a member of the Honda Gold Wing Club and served on the Wayland Economic Development Commission.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Julie Messer of Riverside and Cathy Ringer of Kimbolton, Ohio; one grandson; two brothers, Richard Yoder and Don Yoder, both of Wayland; two sisters, Janet Peterson of Wayland and Sandy Kunze of Leon; one brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two brothers-in-law and his father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Visitation will begin at noon today at Wayland Mennonite Church, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

The private graveside committal service for Mr. Yoder will be at 9 a.m. Friday in North Hill Cemetery.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.

Memorials have been established for Wayland Mennonite Church, Wayland First Responders and Crossroads Hospice of Southeast Iowa.

Olson-Powell Memorial Cha-pel in Mount Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.
