Services Saturday Afternoon at Two O'Clock; many friends Gather.Funeral services for W.H. Barton were held in the Round Prairie Baptist church on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. The church was not large enough to hold the great company that assembled.
Pastor Frank Weston of the First Baptist church, Mt. Pleasant, assisted by Rev. J. Cochrane, pastor at Lockridge and Round Prairie, conducted the service. The sermon was from 2 Cor 5:8 Mrs. Thomas Howell and Mrs. Harry Thompson, with Mrs. Jay Barton as accompanist, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Going Down the Valley," and "The End of the Way." A geat abundance of flowers covered the casket. Burial was in Lambirth cemetery. Terry Stewart, Guy Litton, Carl Jay, Earl Barton, Harry Cooper and Chester Elliott carried the remains to their last earthly resting place among his loved ones.
WILLIAM HENRY BARTON
William Henry Barton, eldest son of Thomas H. and Elizabeth (Harshbarger) Barton, was born July 25, 1861, in Tippecanoe township, Henry county, Iowa, and passed away at St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, Minn., January 14, 1931, at the age of sixty-nine years, five months and twenty days. His entire life, excepting the last five and a half years, during which his home had been in Mt. Pleasant, was spent in the home community. March 6, 1884, he was united in marriage to Minnie E. Rogers, who passed away June 8, 1889. One son, Roy H. Barton, was born to their union. After the death of his wife he made his home with his parents until his marriage to Carrie Crane, February 17, 1904. She passed away March 3, 1923. Tho their union was born one daughter, Ruth Genevieve Barton, who mourns the loss of both parents. Deceased joined the Christian church in early manhood. In later years, Oct. 9, 1924, he united with the Round Prairie Baptist church where he remained a faithful member until his death. He is the first of a family of seven children to depart this life. The youngest of the family, Mrs. Amy Litton and Mr. Samuel Barton, twins have attained the age of fifty-nine. Those left to mourn the loss of a dear father, grandfather and brother are Roy H. Barton, Ruth Genevieve Barton, three granddaughters, Beryl, Wilma and Vivian Barton, the following sisters, Mrs. Mary Jay, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Mrs. Sarah Stewart, Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. Jane Elliott, Lockridge, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Cooper and Mrs. Amy Litton, Salem, Iowa; one brother, Mr. Samuel Barton, Mt. Pleasant and a large host of other relatives and friends. His sudden passing away was a great shock to the entire community.
William H. Barton, familiarly called "Bud" by his many friends, was a man who won and held the confidence of all who knew him. He was an honest, industrious, faithful, genial, generous, God fearing man. He was loved by friends and neighbors as well as by his immediate relatives. All will long hold him in loving remembrance.
