James W. Bates, 82, Taken by Death

Mr. James W. Bates, 82, prominent retired farmer, died at his country home in Marion township, at 8:15 p.m. Friday. He had been in failing health for many months.

He is survived by his wife and two children, Mrs. Harold Hulme and Bernard Bates, both living on farms near by. Also surviving is one brother Isaac Bates of Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral service will be held at Finley chapel at 2 p.m., Monday. The body will be taken from the Crane funeral home to the Bates residence Sunday morning.
