July 25, 1950MARY J. SMITH, 75, TAKEN BY DEATH
Miss Mary J. "Mamie" Smith, 75 years old passed away Monday afternoon at three o'clock at Memorial hospital where she had been a patient for the past week. She had previously been in ill health at her home at 413 East Madison St.
She is survived by one niece, Mrs. Carl Roth, of California, whose father, Charles Smith of this city, brother of the deceased, passed away in 1944. Born on a farm three miles north of Mt. Pleasant, she had spent her entire life in this vicinity.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Crane Funeral Home, Rev. Owen W. Wilson will be in charge of the services and burial will be in Friends cemetery at Salem.

Memorial service for Miss Mary J. (Mamie) Smith was held at the Crane Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Owen Wilson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating.
Mrs. Max Stein played the organ.
Burial was at Friends' cemetery, Salem, with the following serving as casket bearers: Harold McLeran, Denis Jones, Manning Cline, John R. Savage, Chet Hannah, and Dwight Kennedy.
Miss Smith, the daughter of Peter J. and Lucy B. [Crew] Smith was born on a farm three miles north of Mt. Pleasant on January 30, 1875, and died July 24, 1950. A niece, Mrs. Karl Roth of Modesta, Calif. and a number of cousins survive.
