Oriet Elizabeth Cortum, 88, of Parkview Manor in Wayland, died following a brief illness Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Parkview Manor.

Born on May 24, 1916, in Huxley, she was the daughter of Erick and Marta Larson Tesdall. On April 12, 1952, she married Raymond Lloyd Cortum in Albert Lea, Minn. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Cortum and her husband farmed near Wellman until 1988 when they moved to Washington. She also worked at Shenk's Nursing Home and later Parkview Manor in Wellman.

She was a 1933 graduate of Ames High School. She and her husband moved to Wayland in 1998. She loved gardening and cooking.

Survivors include two sons, John Cortum of Mediapolis and William Cortum of Kalona; six grandchildren; and seven great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the time of service Monday at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman.

The funeral for Mrs. Cortum will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Powell Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Burial will be in Wellman Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
