Elsie Mary Campbell, 72, of Wayland, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born Oct. 2, 1931, in Haskins, she was the daughter of Ben and Pauline Wingler Bruegge. On Jan. 21, 1951, she married Walter James Donaldson. He died in 1958. On Nov. 27, 1965, she married Melvin "Barney" H. Campbell. He died Oct. 23, 1997.
Mrs. Campbell worked at Advance Ross in Washington in her early years and later helped with the farm. The last several years she worked at Parkview Home in Wayland.
She was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School. She was a member of Cottonwood United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, painting, sewing Barbie clothes and making quilts.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Donaldson of Mount Pleasant, Ben Campbell of Silver Springs, Md., and Mel Campbell of Burlington; one daughter, Rita Shull of Mount Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; six great–grandchildren; and three sisters, Ethel Jefferies and Gertrude Swift, both of Washington, and Carolyn Kaufman of Wayland.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Campbell will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, south of Wayland, with Pastor Nancy Renfro and Don Coffin officiating. Burial will be in North Hill Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for North Hill Cemetery.
