Howard Boese 1917 - 2003

Howard Boese, 86, of Lockridge, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at the Parkview Home in Wayland. Born Aug. 1, 1917, in Wayland, he was the son of Jake and Ocie Black Boese. On Sept. 11, 1940, he married Nellie Gillaspie in Ottumwa.

Mr. Boese farmed until 1948. He then worked as a machinist for the Dexter Co. in Fairfield for 38 years, retiring in 1986. Following retirement, he bought and sold scrap metal.

He attended the Franklin School in rural Washington. He was a member of the Lockridge Baptist Church, the ODD Fellows and the Canton Bilow Lodge in Fairfield. He enjoyed gardening and mowed for various cemeteries. Several years ago, he had a large collection of gasoline engines.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ida Mae Leopard of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Delores Taylor of Morristown, Tenn.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great–grandchildren; one brother, Dale Boese of Selma; and three sisters, Edith Nordyke and Frances Boese, both of Fairfield, and Dorothy Bartholomew of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

The funeral for Mr. Boese will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lockridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Newman officiating. Burial will be in Lockridge Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Lockridge Baptist Church and Parkview Home in Wayland.
