Margaret R. Bucklin, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Open visitation will be held from 12:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 Mapleleaf Drive in Mt. Pleasant. There will be no family visitation time. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Olson- Powell Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Bill Porter officiating. Burial will be in the Norwich Cemetery in Martelle, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous or to the Great River Hospice.
Born October 5, 1925 in Morley, Iowa, she was the daughter of Lynn and Ruth Boxwell Murfield. As a youth she was baptized into the Methodist Church and was active in the church youth activities. She was a graduate of Anamosa High School. Margaret attended Cornell College where she majored in music.
In 1946, she married William Stroud. They later divorced. In 1955, she married Ben Jones, and they were later divorced. In 1970, she married James Bucklin in Galena, Illinois. The couple lived in Anamosa, Coralville and most recently in Mt. Pleasant.
Margaret loved being a homemaker. She was deeply devoted to her music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ, and also liked to go dancing. She was an avid scrabble player; a game of which she could handily win every time. Margaret enjoyed growing flowers as well as indoor and patio plants. She loved animals, especially her Siamese cats. She also enjoyed a variety of collectibles
She is survived by her husband James of Mt. Pleasant, IA; four daughters, Lynda and her husband David Toomer of Parnell, IA, Paula Stroud and Krista Jones both of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Valee Hatcher of Gardnerville, NV; step-children, David Bucklin and his wife Julie of Solon, IA, Jack Bucklin and his wife Julie of Jefferson, IA, Ann Bucklin of Los Angeles, CA, and Mary Bucklin of Cincinnati, OH. She is also survived by a brother Norman Murfield of Denver, CO, fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Richard Lynn Murfield, and by a step-son Robert Jones.
