Clayton "Jay" Hawbaker

WAPELLO -Clayton "Jay" Hawbaker, 62 of Wapello, and formerly of Charles City, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in Burlington.

Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m., Friday at the Winfield United Methodist Church in Winfield, Iowa, with Rev. Joann Hary officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. in the evening. A memorial has been established.

Clayton "Jay" was born December 11, 1941, in Dallas County to Floyd L. and A. Alene Clayton Hawbaker. He was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginny" Butcher in 1987 at Burlington. He was a member of the Winfield United Methodist Church. He was the former owner of 'The Tomahawk' in Wapello, the 'M&M Grocery Store' in Sunrise Beach, Mo., retired from White Farm Equipment after 25 years in Charles City and recently was a self-employed financial investor. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, painting (artist) and especially loved his family.

Survivors include his wife "Ginny" of Wapello; his mother of New London Nursing and Rehab Center; three sons: Jeffrey J. Hawbaker (Dawn) of Charles City, Bradley Butcher and Daniel (Angi) Butcher of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Renee Happel of Grimes and Lori L. Birchfield (Frank) of Swedesburg. Also surviving is one brother, Gary D. Hawbaker (Sandra) of Boise, Idaho; and three sisters: Jo Thornton (Larry) of Mt. Pleasant, Pamela J. Rausch (Tom) of Newton and Deane Holmes of Cedar Rapids. Also six grandchildren survive.

He was preceded in death by his father.
