March 25, 1958Preston Woman Seeking Nod as Representative
Preston: Mar. 24 – Mary Ann Beck, administrative assistant to the superintendent of the Preston consolidated schools, announced over the weekend that she will be a candidate for state representative from Jackson county, on the Democratic ticket.
Primary election is Monday, June 2. Republican candidate already announced is Foryst L. Wells of Maquoketa, an insurance company representative.
Mrs. Carolyn Pendray, formerly of Maquoketa and now a resident of Mt. Pleasant, Ia., holds the distinction of being the only woman ever to represent Jackson county in the Iowa legislature, she was a member of the House, as a Democrat, in 1929 and 1930. Mrs. Pendray was also Iowa’s first woman legislator.
Miss Beck is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Beck, Preston merchant.
