New London Infant Left On Doorstep Dies And Henry Ogle Is Arrested
_____________

New London, Jan. 29 - The death of the infant found on the doorstep of the home of Carl Wetzenkon, Sunday night, and the confession of Henry Ogle that he had placed the child there, were the latest developments in the sensational case last evening. County attorney Finley of Henry County came down from Mt. Pleasant yesterday and after diligently working on the case succeeded in learning the identity of the baby and the man that deposited it on the doorstep about 10 o'clock last evening. The mother is Blanche Marshall, about 18 years of age, daughter of Mrs. Jane Marshall. The father is said to be a man named White, who worked on the new bank building here last summer, but whose present whereabouts is unknown.
Ogle confessed that he had placed the baby where it was found as a matter of accomodation to Mrs. Marshall and her daughter. The baby was born last Thursday. He was arrested and taken to Mt. Pleasant and may face a serious charge. Mrs. Marshall and her daughter are also facing considerable trouble, as the grand jury will investigate the matter. Signed statements from Mrs. Marshall and her daughter were obtained by the county attorney revealing the entire truth in the case. The Marshalls, mother and daughter, have borne good reputations here, being employed by the people of the town to assist with housework and other domestic duties. The baby died at the home of Mrs. John Wellington, where it had been given the best of care and the remains interred in the Burge Cemetery after a short service by Rev. Pool of the M.E. Church.
The abandonment of the child is a serious offense in itself and if it can be proven its death was caused by exposure brought on by the abandoment, Ogle and the Marshalls will find themselves facing a serious crisis.
