P.E.O’S. VOTE LIBRARY
SUPREME CONVENTION TO BUILD MEMORIAL ON CAMPUS
Biggest News That Has Hit Mount Pleasant for a Long Time. Cost to be Credited to Campaign Fund.
The biggest piece of news that has developed for Mt. Pleasant for years was a telegram received Saturday evening by President Smith of Iowa Wesleyan announcing that the National, or supreme, convention of the
P. E. O. Sisterhood had with great enthusiasm endorsed and established the proposal to erect on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan College at this place a memorial library building commemorating the birth of P. E. O. at Wesleyan. It is understood that the entire membership will be taxed the sum of two dollars, the total sum to be used for the erection of the memorial. It is understood that the funds will amount to between $60,000.00 and $70,000.00 and will be ample to provide not only a fitting library but also a magnificent monument to P. E. O. Unless present plans are changed the new library building will be erected directly west of the Gymnasium.
Quite as important is the fact that the funds received from the P. E. O. with which to erect the library will be credited to the campaign for the million dollars of endowment. This splendid gift with two others, actually in hand provided for the first $300,000.00 of the fund. It also means that the great and daring campaign is going over with enthusiasm and splendid success.
We repeat that this news from the P.E. O. supreme convention is of the most vital importance to this community and should put pep and courage into every heart who is interested in the future of this fine little town.
