In the 1880 & 1885 census for Cly, Harrison County, IA, there was a James McPherson living with his grandmother, Nancy J. Alexander. I am trying to verify if these are my relatives. So far I have been unable to uncover thru what family member these two are related to each other. My paternal grandfater was James McPherson, born in Tipton, Indiana in 1861. His father was John W. McPherson, who may be the one buried in Grant Cemetery in Monona. James' mother was Mary Alexander. I know that Nancy J. lived in Tipton, Indiana and had children born there. She had a daughter, Maria, who married a Sample. I don't know if she could have been married to John, my great grandfather, while still living in Indiana. Nancy died in Harrison County. Would there be a death certificate that gives her parents' name? Are there any records in Harrison county concerning James McPherson? Are there any records that might show the connection between Nacy J. and James? Thanks for your help. I am at a brick wall for uncovering this info.
