MARION McKINLEY “ MICK” MAGUIRE

Marion McKinley “Mick” Maguire, 82, of Logan, died Nov. 8 at his home.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 11 at the Christian Church in Logan with Pastor Ron Riley officiating. Organist was Vicki Koenig and vocalist Rick Powell. Selections were, “See in My Father in Me,” and “Grandpa Tell Me About the Good Old Days.” Honorary bearers were Kathy Lundergard, Ronda Oloff, Bryce Maguire, Douglas Maguire, Chase Maguire, Gracelynn Maguire, and Brittany Lundergard. Casket bearers were Philip Chase, Matthew Chase, Brian Lundergard, Joseph Maguire, Wayne Maguire, and Michael Maguire. Final resting place was Bethel Cemetery, near Logan.

Marion was born March 24, 1920 in Logan to William and Grace Fountain Maguire. He attended country school through the eight grade and then began work as a hired man on a farm for $.50 a day. By the time he was sixteen, he was making $1 a day. In 1937 at the age of 17, he started farming on his own. He met Lorraine Chappell at a country school program where he had climbed the rafters to get a better look at her.

On December 23, 1941 they traveled to Omaha in a blinding snowstorm to get married. They stayed a short time with his parents before renting a place of their own on a farm. In the spring of 1942 the bought the farm near Hardscratch where they raised their three children. In January 1977 they moved to the house they had built in Logan. After Mick retired he continued helping the boys out with their farming operations. Mick was a member of the Christian Church and served as a board member for many years. Most Sundays he was the first one there and the unofficial greeter at the door. Mick also took special care of the Bethel cemetery for many years. Mick was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working in his yard.

Survivors include his wife Lorraine of Logan; daughter, Sharon Chase and husband David of Logan; sons, Larry and wife Carol of Logan, Jerry of Logan; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Mick was preceded in death by granddaughter Diana Maguire, grandson Stuart Chase, daughter-in-law, Mary Margaret Maguire.

The Logan Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
