Ron Jones, age 69, died on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, Iowa, surrounded by his family. He died from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) after a long battle with this physically debilitating neurological disease. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa Falls with burial in the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm. Thursday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with a 4 p.m. Vigil Service.

Ron was born on January 29, 1943, in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Marion and Bonnie (Brown) Jones. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School and then Iowa State University. He wrestled for both schools and achieved a great deal of individual and team success. Ron was united in marriage to Marianne Burton on August 6, 1966 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa Falls. They enjoyed 46 great years together having many laughs and good times with family and friends. Ron was a math teacher, guidance counselor, and wrestling coach at the Iowa Falls High School. During his time as a teacher and coach, he made a tremendous impact on students and athletes, instilling in them that success can be achieved through hard work and perseverance. Ron's wrestling teams were known not only for their toughness and work ethic but also for competing with class. In recognition for his achievements as a wrestler and coach, he was inducted into the Iowa High School Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame and National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E Lodge #1674, St. Knights of Columbus and the Iowa State Letter Winners Club.

Ron is survived by his wife Marianne of Iowa Falls; his son, Darron (Julie) Jones of Clear Lake, Iowa and their children Sam and Gretchen; his daughter, Darci (Tim) Carver of Urbandale, Iowa and their children Katie and Gabriel; his twin brother, Don (Dinah) Jones of Iowa Falls and his brother, Jerry (Linda) Jones of Bellevue, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Bonnie Jones.

Memorials may be directed to the Ron Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Green Belt Bank & Trust, 616 Washington Ave., Iowa Falls, Iowa 50126. The scholarship will be given annually to an Iowa Falls-Alden High School student. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Thur 21 June 2012.
