Barbara Jaques, 89, Ottumwa, and formerly of Iowa Falls area, died Nov. 18, 2008 in Ottumwa. Funeral Mass is 10 am Saturday at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, with inurnment at the Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation and fellowship will follow at the church

Barbara Jaques, 89, of Ottumwa, Iowa and formerly of Iowa Falls, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehab Center, Ottumwa, Iowa. Funeral Mass for Barbara Jaques will be 10:00am Saturday, November 22nd, at the St. Mark's Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, with Inurnment at the Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the services Saturday at the church. The family request in lieu of flowers; with memorials going toward: Good Samaritan, 2035 Chester Ave. Ottumwa, IA 52501 or to Iowa Hospice, 201 High Avenue, E., Oskaloosa, Iowa, 52577. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Barbara Jean Usher was born March 20, 1919, at Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Adel and Des Moines area schools, graduating from Roosevelt High School. She attended the Iowa State Teacher College, Cedar Falls, receiving her teaching certificate. She was married to W. Kenneth Jaques in 1941. Two children were born to this union: Catherine and Thomas. Her husband Kenneth preceded her in death in 1997. They farmed together in Lee Center Community north of Iowa Falls, Iowa, before moving to Iowa Falls where she resided until moving to Sylvan Woods, Ottumwa, Iowa in 2000. After college Barb taught in a country school and was later employed at Boyt's Luggage office, the Iowa Falls Dr.'s Clinic, and Ellsworth Community College. She loved gardening and especially her hostas. She possessed a creative mind creating many beautiful quilts and treasures for her family and friends. She enjoyed many special times with her grandchildren. Barb was a member of St. Mark Parish in Iowa Falls and St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa. She was also a member of the Iowa Falls/Alden Garden Club, Mothers Club, and Retired Teachers Association.

Barbara J. Jaques is survived by her children: Tom [Judy] Jaques of Alden, Iowa, Cathy [Brent] Altfillisch of Ottumwa, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Jeffrey [Julie] Altfillisch of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Mark [Heidi] Altfillisch of Ottumwa, Iowa, Ann [Mike] Espeset, Ames, Iowa, Emily [Ryan] Melcher of Des Moines, Iowa, Daniel [Iris] Jaques of Panama City, Florida, Matthew Jaques of Panama City, Florida, Rebecca Jaques of Chillicothe, Iowa, Joanna [Chad] Kuiper, St. Michael, Minnesota; and eighteen great grandchildren.
