Michael W. Mayland, 42, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Monday, May, 1, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services for Michael W. Mayland will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Linn's Funeral Chapel, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa, with Pastor Steve Hill officiating. A time of visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at the Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls.

Michael William Mayland was born March 9, 1970 at Britt, Iowa, the son of Gloria J. [VanDusseldorp] and Walbert W. Mayland, Jr. He attended the Britt, Iowa Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1989. He was in 4H and FFA during high school and had worked at the high school. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Britt, Iowa. He attended the Iowa Lakes Community College. Mike worked for Martings Manufacturing, Britt, Iowa, The Boyt Co., and the City of Iowa Falls. He also raised Belgian paints, quarter horses, mules and donkeys. He helped the area local kids with their 4H and FFA with their horses. He also helped with the Equestrian Center with driving classes and gave rides on holidays at Calkins Nature Center, native trails at Hampton Pumpkin Days. His Belgian team was also at the Franklin county Fair on the 7 team horse wheel thrashing machine. His horses were shown in 4H and FFA at the Hardin and Franklin County fairs. He enjoyed hunt, fish, trapping, trail rides and working his horses.

Mike Mayland is survived by his parents: Walbert and Gloria Mayland of Britt, Iowa; a daughter: Lacey Mayland of Iowa Falls; two grandchildren: Landon and Dylan Brekke of Iowa Falls; a sister: Becky [Charles] Fitz of Iowa Falls and her sons Bradley Mayland and Levi Fritz; his grandparents: Nona VanDusseldorp of Britt, Iowa, Walbert B. Mayland of Britt, Iowa; a special aunt: June [Eldon] Asche of Kanawa, Iowa; and two special friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Mervin VanDusseldorp and Caroline Mayland; and his special companion: his dog Duke.
