Kathryn Miller, 89, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 29, at Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Kathryn Miller will be 1:00 Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 520 College Avenue, Iowa Falls. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Kathryn Ann Gohring was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa, on June 22nd, 1922, the only child of Sam and Irene Gohring. Her life was anchored by a sense of place, the love of family and friends, and the value of work.

At the age of seven she met Barton Alden Miller, when they played in a recital at the Iowa Falls Conservatory of Music, she on violin and he on piano. They were married fifteen years later at the home of her parents on June 5, 1944, and spent the first year of their marriage in Midland, Texas, while Barton served in the Army Air Corps; this would be the only time in Kathryn's life that she lived away from her hometown on the Iowa River. They built a home on Lincoln Avenue where they raised their family and lived for almost sixty years.
She graduated from Iowa Falls High School in the class of 1940 and Ellsworth Junior College in 1942. Kathryn remained close to her classmates, many of whom she dearly loved, throughout her entire life.

She prepared income taxes at Osgood and Nissly and served as the payroll accountant and then as the secretary to the superintendent for Iowa Falls Public Schools. For seventeen years, until her retirement in 1986, she was the office manager at Prestressed Concrete of Iowa, a job that she enjoyed immeasurably.

She is survived by her son Mark (Vicki) Miller of West Des Moines and her daughter Meredith (David) Homans, of Minneapolis; grandchildren Benton Miller, Abigail Miller McArthur, Halsey (Martin) Cicero, Charles Homans (Patricia Kang), Jonathan Homans (Lora Wichser) and great-grandchildren Lila McArthur, Mayme Donsker, and Harold Homans. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She died on April 29, 2012. Services will be held this Saturday, May 5th at 1:00 PM at the First Congregational Church in Iowa Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the church.
