Marjorie was the middle child of a family of 5 and they lived with her grandmother Lydia Olivia Maryhew in a home without running water and a cook stove as their only heat in the wintertime. She attended school in Dows and was married in 1937 to Kenneth L. Surls and to that union one child, Connie, was born. She worked as a clerk for J.J. She was an avid reader and a crossword puzzle champion. She collected life like dolls and over 100 dolls were displayed in her "doll room" in her home.
