Betty Jean Hansen, 76, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Betty Jean Hansen will be 1:30 Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Lee Center United Methodist Church,393 Ironwood Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa. A time of visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Lee Center Methodist Church or to Hospice of Iowa, Marshalltown. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Betty Jean Hodge Hansen, born January 5,1938 in Iowa City, Iowa, was the daughter of Elizabeth (Betty) Ball, (Bennett) and Carl Hodge.
Betty graduated in the class of 1956 from Alden High School. A good student with a gift for music, Betty shared her talents by singing and playing the organ throughout her lifetime. Her first employment was at Weaver Construction Company from 1956-1958.
On February 16,1958, Betty married LeRoy Oliver Hansen at the Immanuel-Memorial U.C.C. Church in Alden, Iowa. While LeRoy continued serving in the military, the newlyweds moved to Hopewell, Virginia. Following military service, the couple resided in Ames, Iowa where LeRoy managed the Iowa Boar Testing Station for Iowa State University. During this time the couple was blessed with two daughters, Linda Jane and Janet Rose.
The family moved to Trimble, Missouri where LeRoy worked at the Farmers Cooperative Research Farm. Betty enjoyed singing in the church choir, directing the children's choirs, sang at numerous funerals and had the honor of singing a duet at the Gladstone Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1970 the family returned to Iowa Falls where Betty worked alongside her husband on the farm, doing chores and fieldwork. An excellent cook, Betty was also known for her baking and received awards for her cakes. She served as a 4-H leader, Past Senior Regent Star and Recorder for the Iowa Falls Women of the Moose. A dedicated Christian, Betty had great joy playing the organ at Sunday church services for the Bradford United Methodist Church and the Lee Center United Methodist Church.
In January 1987, Betty began employment as an insurance clerk at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, retiring in June 2005.
Beginning in 1991, Betty and her beloved Aunt Cecilia Hansen had the opportunity to and the enjoyment of traveling in the United States and abroad. June 3, 2011, Betty became a resident of Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Betty enriched the lives of many people throughout her lifetime.
Her husband, her parents and one brother, Donald Hodge, precede Betty in death.
Betty is survived by her daughters: Janet [Mark] Miller and Linda [Gary] Hanson; five grandchildren: Jessica [Dan] Coffey, Kate [Cody] Flowers, Andrea Miller, Zach [Amber] Miller, and Alexandra [Nic] Riley; Seven great grandchildren; brother, Bob Hodge and wife Doris; Niece, Barbara Wilkinson and husband Wayne. Also, her loyal farm family, her devoted church family, her fun loving neighbor family, her EMH employee family, her Scenic Manor family and her Hospice family.
