Jack Gilmore, age 96 of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 31st at the Immanuel Memorial U.C.C. in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 P.M. Friday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of arrangements.
Full military rites will be provided by the Navy Funeral Honors of Iowa.
Jack LeRoy Gilmore was born on December 10, 1921 in Alden, Iowa, the son of Roy and Lila (Ranger) Gilmore. He graduated from the Alden High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He served in WWII in the Pacific aboard the CVE escort carrier, the U.S.S. Makin Island. Jack was united in marriage to Marie Mensing on October 16, 1946 at the Presbyterian Church in Dows, Iowa. They lived on their farm west of Alden raising dairy cattle and their three girls. They moved to Cedar Ridge in February of 2004 and later he became a resident at Scenic Manor. Jack was a member of the Immanuel Memorial U.C.C. in Alden since February 8, 1953. He was a past President of the Alden Lions Club, Master of the Masonic Lodge #366 of Alden, and past Worthy Patron Order of Eastern Star. He shared a love for ballroom dancing with Marie and together they made many friends on the dance floor as they traveled and danced their way through retirement.
Jack is survived by his daughters, Jacalyn (Mark) Fisher of Clear Lake, Judy (Carroll) Ose of Blairsburg and Jane (Howard) Shepherd of Ames, seven grandchildren, Brooke (Fisher) Werneburg, Blair Fisher, Erin (Ose) Heiden, Michael Ose, Lindsey (Ose) Weber, Seth Shepherd and Blake Shepherd; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; brother, Robert; and two sisters, Cozette in infancy and Verdelle Ellingson.
