NEW PROVIDENCE—Cynthia Jane Rogers, 47, of New Providence died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at her home from natural causes with complications of influenza. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Honey-Creek New Providence Friends Church. Interment will follow in the Bangor Cemetery south of Union. A visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Biersborn Funeral Home in Union, with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Cynthia was born Aug. 5, 1957, in Iowa City, the daughter of Donald M. and Jane Diane Beach Rogers. She spent her first years in rural Marshall County, attending elementary school at West Marshall School at Clemons. She finished high school in Des Moines. She attended Grand View College in Des Moines, earning a B.A. in journalism and pursued her M.A. at the University of Texas, Clear Lake, Texas. At Grand View College she pursued her interests in writing and participated in chorus and drama. Her poems received awards and publication in Lyrical Iowa and national publications. From the age of 13 until her death, Cynthia battled a brain tumor and its many complications.

Cynthia is survived by her mother, Diane Rogers of New Providence; father Donald M. Rogers of Dadeville, Mo.; three brothers, Richard S. and Cathy Rogers of Des Moines, James D. and Sherry Rogers of Franktown, Colo., and Donald G. and Teresa Rogers of Neptune, Fla.; and her paternal grandparents, Howard and Mildred Rogers of Dadeville, Mo. She was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Linda Diane Rogers; a brother, Jeffrey Kevin Rogers; and her maternal grandparents, Chelsea and Hazel Beach.
