Margaret was born March 9, 1929, to Harold and Edith Shaw in Rockwell City, Iowa, at the home of her grandparents.

She graduated in 1947 from Eldora High School in Eldora, Iowa.

On April 18, 1948, she married Melvin Oberhokamp at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hubbard, Iowa. They farmed in several areas of Hardin County until 1961 when they moved to the family farm south of Radcliffe in Hamilton County, where Melvin continues to reside. Margaret moved to the Bethany Life Communities in July 2008. In addition to being a life-long homemaker, Margaret worked at Dr. Arlen Zierke's veterinary office in Hubbard, Iowa, for a few years, then as a nurse's aid at the Story City Hospital for 13 and a half years before retiring.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, and was active in the church for many years, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and participating in ALCW activities.

Margaret Joyce Oberhokamp passed from this life on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Bethany Life Communities in Story City, Iowa.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, are five children: Roger Oberhokamp of Collins, Iowa; Kathy (Terry) Clark of Cambridge, Iowa; Linda Cerka of Littleton, Colorado; Randy (Paula) Oberhokamp of Rhodes, Iowa; Lisa (Brian) Roggendorf of Marion, Iowa; ten grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren; and a brother, H. James (Nancy) Shaw of St. Johnsville, New York; along with many other relatives and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Joan (Don) Risdal, Atkins, Iowa, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Wright.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, IA. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register, Sat 10 Jan 2009.
