FORT DODGE -Rev. Ernest E. "Preach" Basye, 90, of Fort Dodge died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Memorial services were Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the chapel in the Heritage Apartments of Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge with Chaplain Bill Trembly officiating.
Ernest was born Oct. 10, 1913, to Rev. E.O. and Rose Basye in the Methodist parsonage in Winston, Mo. On May 3, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mary Mason at Amity, Mo. Ernest was known to all as "Preach" and he and Mary shared 67 years of marriage. They spent their last years together at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. He was an ordained United Methodist pastor for over 65 years, serving in Westboro, Mo., Ackley/Parkersburg, Dysart, Grundy Center, West Union, Glenwood and Early.
Survivors include three sons, Jack and wife Jeannie of Scottsdale, Ariz., John and wife Sandy of Glenwood, and Jerry and wife Vyrdel of Concordia, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Sue Basye of Hampton; a sister, Opal Reidenbach of Lee's Summit, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy and Jim.
