ACKLEY - Ada May Poland, 104, of Ackley died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 29, at the First Church of God in Iowa Falls with Rev. Steven Acheson officiating. Burial will be at the Friends Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 28, from 5-7 p.m. at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family in care of her daughter, Dorothy Miller, 12587 S Ave., Ackley, IA 50601.
Ada was born March 10, 1899, at Holley Grove, Ill., to Robert and Clara (Wehrle) Keller. The family moved to the Alden area where she attended the Alden Community Schools. On Jan. 1, 1921, Ada was united in marriage to Clarence Poland at Detroit, Mich. She had been employed as a personal secretary to the Dodge Brothers of the Dodge Motor Company in Detroit. In the 1940s, the couple moved to Iowa and farmed for 12 years in the Buckeye area, and then east of Iowa Falls, where she was still living. Ada was a member of the First Church of God.
Survivors include one son, Robert Poland and wife Mildred of Kewanee, Ill.; two daughters, Dorothy Miller and husband Dean E. of Ackley and Shirley Rich of Humbolt; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne Keller and wife Esther of Blairsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; one great-granddaughter, Maribeth Penn; four sisters, Lily Gade, Golda Keller, Daisy Lindberg and Clara Clark; and four brothers, Ernest, Oscar, Lee and Joe Keller.
