IOWA FALLS - Martha E. Huston, 91, of Iowa Falls died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel. Burial was at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Martha was born Oct. 21, 1912, in Gilman to Lewis and Deborah (Mock) Simcox. Martha graduated from Lemoile High School where was very active in girls' basketball and played on all-state teams. She attended Drake University and began her 11-year teaching career in rural schools. On July 3, 1942, Martha married Russell Huston. The couple lived in Dallas, Texas, and several areas in California during his Navy career, returning to Iowa to raise their children following his discharge. They farmed in Marshall County for four years and five years near Iowa Falls.

In 1956, they moved to Eldora where they stayed until 1972. After many years at home, she enjoyed her jobs in a clothing store and later as society editor at the Eldora Herald Ledger. She was always involved with her children's education and active in many school groups. In 1972, they moved to Ankeny and later returned to Iowa Falls to retire. Martha was a member of the Meeting in Iowa Falls.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Huston and wife Kathy of Aplington and Douglas Huston and wife Sandra of Iowa Falls; one daughter, Karen Cakerice and husband Lonnie of Pilot Point, Texas; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell; one sister; and eight brothers.
